Chronic & Acute Pain

Your session includes a thorough body analysis, personalized consultation, and a 60-minute therapeutic massage designed to address both chronic and acute pain, targeting the root causes to relieve tension, improve mobility, and promote overall well-being.

Addressing Chronic & Acute Pain

At 5 Elements Massage Therapy, we specialize in identifying and addressing the root causes of both chronic and acute pain. Often, the area where you feel discomfort isn’t the source of the problem. Understanding the patterns that create pain allows us to target the source, decompressing joints, balancing muscles, releasing spasms, and improving blood flow. Our goal is results-oriented: to help you live better, move easier, and sleep more comfortably.

Chronic pain and nerve-related issues are often associated with conditions such as:

Cancer/Oncology

Modified massage therapy techniques can safely address complications from cancer and cancer treatments. Clients currently undergoing or who have completed cancer treatment can benefit from the specialized care of a trained oncology massage therapist.

Scar Tissue Therapy

Scar tissue massage helps mold fresh scars to keep them supple and can also remodel older scars, freeing restrictions and allowing them to glide with surrounding tissue. Therapy can begin as soon as two weeks post-op and can be incorporated into 15- or 30-minute sessions or included as part of a full-body massage.

Sciatica

Sciatic pain often results from compression of nerve roots near the spine, frequently caused by tight muscles and connective tissue. Therapeutic massage helps relax these areas and relieve discomfort. Simple tests can determine whether your pain stems from connective tissue or nerve compression, allowing us to create a tailored massage plan.

Auto-Immune Diseases

Conditions such as Fibromyalgia, Lupus, and Multiple Sclerosis often cause chronic muscle and fascia tension, leading to pressure on nerves, blood vessels, and muscle fibers. This tension triggers inflammation and pain. Therapeutic massage releases tight muscles, loosens joints, and improves blood flow, providing relief and supporting tissue healing.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel occurs when the median nerve is compressed at the wrist, often due to repetitive work, driving, or manual labor. Symptoms include hand and wrist pain, finger numbness, and loss of dexterity. Effective massage begins by releasing restrictions at the neck and working down the arm to address the source of compression.

Pre-Natal Massage

Pregnancy brings significant changes to a woman’s body. Pre-natal massage helps muscles and ligaments adjust to these shifts, easing discomfort and improving overall comfort. This massage is recommended for the second and third trimesters and can be customized to each client’s needs.

Chronic Pain Associated With:

  • Head
  • Neck
  • Joint Pain
  • Shoulders
  • Lower Back
  • Tissue Damage

Acute vs. Chronic Pain

Acute pain is a type of pain that usually lasts less than three to six months and is directly linked to tissue damage, such as a sprained ankle or a paper cut. Unlike chronic pain, acute pain tends to be sharp and severe and is typically triggered by a specific event, like a fall, injury, or impact. It serves as a warning signal that the body needs attention or care.
